The industrial sector in India has grown many fold since independence. India has now a very large population base engaged in industrial activity though it is less than agriculture and the primary sector. The economic reforms initiated by the Government since 1991 have added new dimensions to industrial growth. India has witnessed series of industrial accidents in the recent period. The Factory Act,1948 as amended in 1987 has listed 28 industries involving hazardous processes which includes steel, lead, copper, manganese, aluminum, power, cement, petroleum, chemical, fertilizer, coal and mining sectors in particular. These sectors involve hazardous processes in the manufacture of their products from ore to finishing stages.
In order to address these fronts affectively the industry need to have adequate infrastructure, equipment and skilled manpower in place.
